Bhoomi Seva organises farmer training in natural and organic farming and agroforestry, with the intention of holding it every year in July or August.
The session recorded here was held in July 2023 at Chirantana School, Kabbalu, Kanakapura, to spread awareness about organic farming among farmers.
The training builds awareness among farmers about the benefits of organic farming and agroforestry, and about how continuous use of chemical fertilisers reduces yield over a period of time. It explains that natural farming practised for more than a couple of years can produce yields above those obtained from chemical fertilisers.
It also gives farmers practical guidance on how to switch to organic farming or agroforestry.
Training material cites farmer income increases of 300–800% over 3–8 years. This figure comes from case studies the organisation shares; results vary by crop, soil, climate and farming practice.
Videos and information from model farmers are used, so that farmers considering the switch can see how other farmers' lives changed after it.
